Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) new entrant Singapore RAS aims to produce 1,ooo metric tons of salmon by 2025. The Asian company recently announced that it has signed an agreement with Norwegian land-based farming company OFS Norge As and Onshore Technologies AS (ONTEC) for a basic design and study of its planned RAS facility in Singapore.
The agreement opens the opportunity for strategic and financial co-operation on the project as well as local aquaculture capacity building based on ONTEC’s academy in Måløy.
Singapore RAS intends to expand production to expansion to 3,000 metric tons to fulfill Singapore’s 30/30 food sufficiency target. The island city-state of Singapore imports more than 90 percent of its food and has a strategy labelled 30/30 which aims to boost local food production to 30 percent by 2030. It also has a strong focus on circular economy and sustainability, two aspects that are central to this project.
“Singapore RAS aims to establish itself as a leading-edge onshore sustainable producer of Atlantic Salmon in Singapore, right next to the dinner table in the largest per capita salmon market in Southeast Asia,” a press release from the company said. “We are in particularly driven by the wish to ensure a maximum of recirculation. With multiple circular economy first’: for sludge, for processing waste, for cooling energy to mention some major elements.”
